Volusia County's Redistricting Process To Involve Community

Posted

DeLand, FL - The detailed population data from the U.S. Census Bureau's 2020 census is now in the hands of the Volusia County Council (VCC) and Volusia County School Board (VCSB). The VCSB and VCSB are each divided into five districts with members being elected from each of these districts. The districts are redrawn every ten years, using the population information available from the Census Bureau. Partisan issues are not included in the decision-making process.

Members of the community can also take part in the process. There are several ways for residents to share comments:

  • Submit comments online atwww.volusia.org/census or www.vcsedu.org/school-board.
  • Participate in joint meetings between the County Council and the School Board at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 11, 18 and 28 in the first-floor training room of the Thomas C. Kelly Administration Center, 123 W. Indiana Ave., DeLand.
  • Submit comments during the public comment session at a regularly scheduled County Council or School Board meeting in October.
  • Contact their County Council or School Board representatives directly.

The County Council and School Board will adopt new district boundaries by December.
