Daytona Beach, FL - Through guidance from the state's department of education, Volusia & Flagler schools will be extending their closure for spring break.
Both districts informed the public that the Florida Department of Education made the call to extend the closure from today (March 13th) to March 29th, following a national emergency declared by President Donald Trump regarding COVID-19 – AKA, the coronavirus.
“A decision such as this is not an easy one to make,” says Flagler Schools Superintendent James Tager. “I understand this will put pressures on many of our families but the Flagler Schools team will be working to determine what, if any services we can give our families the week following Spring Break.”
VCS is also recommending that any students/families going on a cruise over spring break to self-isolate for 14 days upon return from travel, under guidance from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
"Student absences will be excused, and students will be allowed to complete assignments and tests. Arrangements can be made through the school once parents notify administration that their child will need to self-isolate," said Volusia County's release.
