Daytona Beach, FL - A worrying year-end report from the Florida Department of Health shows Volusia County had the third-highest number of reported Hepatitis A cases.

Between January 1st and December 28th of 2019, the FDOH claimed Volusia had a total of 310 reported cases of Hepatitis A, which dwarfs the mere five cases that were reported between January 1st and December 31st of 2018.

In fact, cases reported in the state overall has increased dramatically, with 3,390 cases reported in 2019, compared to 2018's 547 cases. Between 2014 and 2018, only 1,175 cases were reported by the FDOH.

The sudden influx of cases actually led to a public health emergency being filed back in August of 2019.

Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nuñez spoke on the importance of the issue in a press release back in mid-December, saying: “Ending the outbreak in Florida requires the effective and efficient use of every available resource."
