VSO Arrest Wanted Man After Chase

DeLand, FL -  Volusia Sheriff's Office (VSO) deputies, along with Sheriff Mike Chitwood, DeLand Police, and Air One found 38-year-old Kenneth Bennett yesterday (March 8). He fled from them but ended up in handcuffs at a Circle K gas station.

VSO issued an alert last Friday (March 5) asking for tips on Bennett's whereabouts.  At that time, he was wanted on two counts of grand theft and a warrant for possession of heroin.

Video posted by VSO shows Bennett traveling at high speeds, running stop signs, and passing vehicles illegally. He pulls into a yard and abandons the car, running through a wooded area to the Circle K store where he was apprehended without issue. On the way out to the parking lot, Chitwood is on scene to hold the door. The manager said Bennett stole a pack of cigarettes just before he was taken into custody. He was then taken to the hospital for treatment of a possible overdose.

Bennett now faces three counts of grand theft of a motor vehicle in three separate cases, burglary, fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, and retail theft in addition to his warrants for failure to appear on previous charges of possession of heroin, paraphernalia, and driving with a suspended license. He's being held without bond at the Volusia County Jail.
