VSO: Fleeing Suspect Shoots 2 K-9s, Suspect Wounded By Deputies

Deltona, FL - Deputies say a fleeing carjacking suspect shot and wounded two Volusia Sheriff's Office (VSO) K-9s early Saturday morning (September 11).

An email from the VSO says the shooting took place near the Deltona Gardens Apartments and Lowe's in Deltona. The suspect was wounded by deputies when they returned fire. According to deputies, both the suspect and the K-9s are recovering at this time.

The incident began with a report of a carjacking around 11:30 p.m. Friday (September 10). After locating the suspect, the driver fled and later bailed out into a wooded area. One K-9 was injured just after 12:00 a.m. and the other was injured around 2:20 a.m. Deputies say the incident was captured on video.

Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood is expected to address the media at 2:00 p.m. at the VSO headquarters in DeLand.
