Daytona Beach, FL - One Volusia County employee is dead and another is in custody after a supposed "love triangle" led to a fatal shooting at a county facility.

Deputies were called to the Volusia County Fleet Maintenance Facility off of Indian Lake Road after receiving reports of a shooting Thursday morning (February 4th). When the Volusia Sheriff's Office (VSO) arrived at the scene, they found a county employee who had been shot multiple times—he was later pronounced dead at Halifax Health Medical Center.

Deputies were also directed to a man at the scene who turned out to be the shooter. The shooter, another county employee who remains unidentified at this time, was taken into custody and made a statement confessing to the deadly encounter.

According to Volusia Sheriff Mike Chitwood, who spoke to reporters following the shooting, the shooter came to work and spoke to his supervisor and said he needed time off for a family issue. Afterwards, he walked into a garage where the victim was and shot him multiple times.

Chitwood further stated that investigators determined the cause of the shooting to be a relationship—or in his words, a "love triangle"—between the victim and the shooter's wife, another county employee. Despite determining that, deputies have mentioned that the investigation is still ongoing.

A release from the Sheriff's Office states that they plan to release the names of the defendant and the victim at a later time.

We will provide updates as they come.
