VSO Quickly Identifies Suspects In Two Separate Shootings

UPDATE:  (07-26-20)  Stephen Allen, the suspect in a shooting on Friday (July 24) in New Smyrna Beach, is now in custody. Deputies first found the victim's car because of a tip earlier yesterday (July 25) evening in the 700 block of South Atlantic Avenue. They found Allen at 8: 40 p.m. yesterday at a 7-11 store located at 100 North Atlantic Avenue.  Allen is being held without bond on one charge of carjacking with a firearm and one count of attempted second-degree murder with a firearm.

Daytona Beach, FL - Volusia Sheriff's detectives have identified suspects in two separate shootings that happened yesterday (July 24). 

The first happened in New Smyrna Beach around 10:15 a.m.   The suspect is 68-year-old Stephen E. Allen. There's a warrant for his arrest for attempted murder and carjacking.  Investigators say Allen may be in the Miami area or on his way there. The shooting happened in the 1300 block of Findlay Street. Witnesses saw the 50-year-old victim come out of a wooded area behind the shopping plaza on S.R. 44 at Mission Road. The victim had multiple gunshot wounds to his arm, abdomen and chest. His car, a blue Toyota Solara convertible with Ohio tag 732 YZV, was seen leaving the area.

The victim told deputies that Allen, who did not have a permanent residence, had recently moved into his home. He said Allen shot him and stole his car. The victim is expected to survive.

The second shooting happened in DeLand on the 1000 block of South Clara Street. The victim, an adult male, said that 21-year-old Desean Gillislee came into his house while he was sleeping, pepper-sprayed him in the face and then shot him in the lower legs. The victim was take to the hospital for treatment.

A warrant has been issued for Gillislee's arrest charging him with armed burglary with battery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

New Smyrna Beach, DeLand, shootings
