VUE President Speaks On Governor's School Reopening Plan

Daytona Beach, FL - Volusia United Educators President Elizabeth Albert is working with about one hundred people to come up with a plan for reopening Volusia County Schools. She said she's happy to see that there's funding attached to the Governor's plan and when funding to support initiatives and mandates is available, that's a good thing.

The Governor just articulated what he would like to see through the work being done by the statewide task force, according to Albert. "The nuts and bolts of it are that they feel that a reopening of our schools using the brick and mortar facilities on the already scheduled days for opening, is an appropriate pathway to take."

There's no indication of waiving required minutes and days minutes days. Albert says that makes the damage a bit difficult to manage.  "Local districts have the final decision-making authority but what we know is that, typically, the districts, at least Volusia County, will follow the guidelines that are set up by the state."

Albert said that School Superintendent Dr. Fritz, wants the county education task force to presents their school opening plans next week, Tuesday, June 23, at their regularly scheduled meeting.
