Palm Coast, FL - A stilt home in the Hammock Dunes is destroyed after wind-driven flames engulfed most of the home Tuesday morning (February 2nd).

A mail carrier spotted smoke coming from the Osceola Avenue home around 11:15 in the morning and called 911, according to investigators. Eight units from Flagler County Fire Rescue and the fire departments of Flagler Beach and Palm Coast responded to the call and were able to extinguish the flames, but most of the main living area was consumed by the fire.

"Flames were coming from the top balcony of the home when firefighters arrived,” said Interim Fire Chief Joe King. "(Fire Rescue) Engine 41 and Rescue 41 quickly located, confined, and extinguished the wind-driven fire that consumed a main area of the occupied residence."

The residents of the home were able to escape the fire, along with their pet. The Red Cross was not called as the residents have family in the area.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
