Holly Hill, FL - A woman is being held in Volusia County Jail on tampering charges and illegal immigration charges following an incident at a Walmart.

Holly Hill police say they were called to the Walmart Neighborhood Market off of Nova Road just before 7 p.m. yesterday (April 22nd) to help with a trespasser. When police arrived, they met with the asset protection manager, who said they saw 40-year-old Lisette Santis spit food into two produce bins.

According to the manager's narrative, they were in the produce section fulfilling an online order when they spotted Santis. While working in that section, they spotted Santis take a piece of fruit out of a sealed container of guava. Santis then took a bite and spit the fruit out into her hand. Then, she took another bite and spit that fruit into her other hand, per the report.

And, as she spit out the food, the manager noticed that she was contaminating the limes with the spit that came out.

After that, Santis dropped a piece of half-eaten guava into the limes, and one into the oranges. The report also states that Santis spit into the oranges as well. Santis was then confronted by the manager and taken to loss prevention. Before police arrived, the manager asked why Santis did what she did. Santis responded by saying "I don't know, just cause."

The manager told police that they disposed of their limes and oranges and had to now reevaluate their stock to see if any others had to be disposed of.

When police interviewed Santis, she said she didn't know why she spit into the fruits. When asked if she was aware of the COVID-19 pandemic, she said yes and further stated "I don't have it," according to the report. She was then asked if she was tested, Santis replied no. Police also noted that as they spoke to Santis, she kept making small laughs and showed no remorse for what she did.

Officers estimate that Santis caused almost $350 in damages. She was arrested and charged with tampering with a product and illegal immigration. Santis remains in VCJ with no bond.
