Ormond Beach, FL - A woman who was fighting for her life after a crash in Ormond Beach passes away.

The Ormond Beach Police Department says that 41-year-old Mandee Vancil and her husband, 44-year-old Mark Vancil, were riding on US-1 on Monday (March 9th) when the accident happened.

According to the report, Mark – who is from Lake City, South Carolina – was trying to stop his motorcycle rapidly, which caused the rear end to sway from side-to-side. Mandee, who was on the rear of the motorcycle, was thrown from the vehicle. She was also not wearing a helmet, per authorities.

Mandee was transported to the hospital with a severe head injury. Mark Vancil was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The following day (March 10th), Mandee passed away from her injuries. She was also a few days shy of her 42nd birthday. No other information was provided by Ormond Beach police.

This is the fifth fatality during Bike Week, which only started last Friday (March 6th). Three other riders were killed in Daytona Beach early Tuesday morning. Another Ormond Beach man was killed earlier last week as well, but that occurred the day before Bike Week officially started.
