Woman Who Beat Disabled Victim To Death Gets Life In Prison

DeLand, FL - The woman accused of beating a disabled victim to death for a life insurance policy learns she'll spend the rest of her life behind bars.

57-year-old Diane Reid was handed down that sentence, plus a 15-year sentence for neglect of a disabled adult, by Chief Judge Raul Zambrano earlier this morning (February 14th).

Back on July 15th, 2017, Reid beat the victim to death before calling law enforcement to report that they were not breathing. When officers arrived, they found the victim with severe bruising and injuries.

Their investigation found that Reid took out a life insurance policy on the victim with herself as the beneficiary. She was later convicted by a Volusia County jury in December of last year.

“The defendant bound and beat our disabled and defenseless Victim to death over a life insurance policy," said State Attorney RJ Larizza. "It is especially troubling that the defendant was the caretaker of our Victim, and used her position of trust to feed her greedy agenda."
