1,200-Lot RV Park Coming to Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - It's official: a huge new RV park is on its way to the west end of Daytona. The Daytona Beach City Commission on Wednesday voted to approve the development, which will change the game for those traveling to attend events like Speedweeks and Bike Week.

The 353-acre park, set to be called Daytona Lakes RV Resort, will have 1,200 lots, hiking trails, lakes for canoeing and kayaking, and an activities center. The area of land it will be built on was previously unincorporated Volusia County, but will now be annexed by the City of Daytona Beach.

Glenn Storch, an attorney for developers Blue Coral Properties, has stressed throughout the process that 61% of the area being developed will be left natural, a provision which he says will help those staying there feel like they're still immersed in nature. It's also something he hopes will ease concerns by those who live in the surrounding area that the Daytona Lakes RV Resort will upend their way of life.

Wednesday's vote was the second reading of the ordinance to annex 179.7 acres of unincorporated Volusia, which will be combined with almost that much in existing Daytona Beach acreage.
