Another $5 Million Allocated For Rent & Mortgage Assistance

Posted

DeLand, FL - With the initial $5 million allocated in May for emergency rent and mortgage assistance through the Relaunch Volusia plan already used up, another $5 million was allocated on Tuesday. The money comes from Volusia County's federal coronavirus relief funds received from the federal government as part of the CARES Act.

The original allocation has covered the total dollar amount of the 1,195 grant applications that have been approved and funded. With funding for the more than 1,200 applications that are still under review, the first $5 million has been exceeded. The Volusia County Council allocated the additional funds at Tuesday's meeting.

“It’s really tough out there in the community,” Volusia County Community Services Director Dona Butler told the council. “People are still needing assistance. So we’re working as hard and fast and diligently as we can.”
