Avelo Airlines to Suspend Part of Daytona Flight Schedule

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Avelo Airlines, the airline that just announced its arrival at Daytona Beach International Airport this year, has already announced it would be reducing its flight schedule in Daytona. The move is part of a larger rollback of services in multiple Florida airports.

According to a report from the Daytona Beach News-Journal, Avelo will be suspending its twice-weekly flights from Daytona to Wilmington, Delaware for two months early next year. When that reduction goes into effect, Avelo's only route in Daytona will be to New Haven, Connecticut, pending any further rollbacks.

Alongside the Daytona Beach move, Avelo also announced it was permanently ending its service in Melbourne, as well as one nonstop flight route in Sarasota. The Daytona-New Haven route will reportedly have newly added flights, according to a spokesperson with Avelo.

In an explanation provided to the News-Journal in their report, Avelo said they had to undergo repairs to their existing fleet due to delays in receivig new aircraft. They identified the Daytona Beach, Melbourne, and Sarasota flights as prime candidates to receive breaks or permanent lapses in service due to expected lulls in demand. Still, the decision to decrease service has caused ire from some Volusia County residents given its close proximity to Avelo's April announcement and June debut in Daytona.
