Beginning Today, Unpaid Tolls Can Be Paid With Vehicle Registration Renewal

Posted

DeLand, FL - Customers with unpaid tolls can now pay them off during the vehicle registration process at Volusia County Tax Collector offices. The Office of Will Roberts – Tax Collector has entered an agreement with the Central Florida Expressway Authority (CFX) to cover the process.

“Until now customers would have to leave our office and contact the Central Florida Expressway Authority to clear the vehicle’s record before the registration work could be processed,” said Will Roberts, Volusia County tax collector. “That’s not good customer service. Now we do not have to turn anyone away due to unpaid tolls.”

Before the agreement, Roberts explained, Florida statute did not allow tax collectors to complete a motor vehicle transaction if the vehicle had outstanding tolls owed to CFX.

Customers with unpaid tolls will be charged a $1 service fee to have a toll cleared at any Volusia County Tax Collector office. CFX sets the amount of the service fee annually.

Roberts added that no additional staff or equipment was needed to provide this service. Established systems were integrated to clear tolls with CFX.
