Daytona Beach, FL - A criminal defense lawyer and former Daytona Beach city commissioner has been placed on probation by the Florida Bar.
Documents show that Aaron Delgado—leading attorney for Aaron Delgado & Associates in Daytona Beach—was officially reprimanded by the Florida Bar on April 7. According to the bar, the reprimand stems from an investigation that was opened after the association learned about conversations intercepted by federal investigators.
It says the conversations were in relation to purchasing “contraband,” but did not specify what it meant. According to a report from the Daytona Beach News-Journal, the contraband the Florida Bar is referring to is narcotics. Delgado has not been charged with a crime.
In a conditional guilty plea filed with the Florida Bar and Florida Supreme Court, Delgado denied that the intercepted conversations were about “contraband.” However, he did admit that the conversations “had the appearance of impropriety” and were “not becoming of a lawyer.”
Delgado will now serve two years of probation and has to pay the Florida Bar $1,628.32. He will also be required to follow recommendations made by the Florida Lawyers' Assistance program—which offers assistance to members of the bar who struggle with substance abuse.
His progress will be monitored as part of a rehabilitation contract with the FLA. He will also have to pay the FLA a registration fee of $250 and pay $100 a month as part of his probation monitoring. The conditional guilty plea shows Delgado entered into a contract with the FLA on August 16, 2021.
