Daytona Beach, FL - A video posted by the Daytona Beach Police Department on social media of an armed robbery that took place on Saturday, May 25, leads to the arrest of 23-year-old Alfred Wright. He's also charged in connection with stealing over $40,000 worth of products on April 16, 2019, from an AT&T store on Beville Road.
DBPD Public Information Officer Messod Bendayan said that social media led to Wright's arrest. A video posted on Tuesday (May 28) from a May 25 armed robbery committed at the MLK Grocery on South Martin Luther King Boulevard was seen by a woman who contacted DBPD to tell them she had seen someone who looked like Wright at the Midtown Cultural & Educational Center.
Officers responded to the location, found Wright and arrested him on two separate felony counts of robbery, one without a weapon (AT&T) and one with a weapon (MLK). DBPD already had an active warrant for Wright from the AT&T crime.
Detectives think Wright worked with another man to rob the AT&T store, mainly stealing cell phones. Witnesses reported that the other suspect was armed while Wright was not.
Wright was alone for the robbery at the MLK Grocery. Detectives think he took a large amount of cash from the register, then fled after threatening to kill the clerk with a gun.
Wright has a rap sheet dating back to 2013 when he was 18-years-old. He's in the Volusia County Jail. Bond for the robbery where he used a gun is set at $100,000.
