DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Daytona Beach Police Department has identified its primary suspect in the Saturday shooting of two college students. 31-year-old William L. Phillips is their main person of interest, and is still at-large as of Tuesday afternoon.

Phillips has been charged by police with two counts of attempted first degree murder, as well as one count of possession of a weapon/ammo by a convicted felon.

Police have stated that Phillips was attending a bar with the two victims, both students at Bethune-Cookman University, before the shooting occurred. The two victims, a 21-year-old male and a-23 year-old female, then traveled to the 500 block of McLeod Avenue near Joe Harris Park according to the report. It's then that Phillips is said to have come up to their vehicle and fired gunshots into it, striking both.

Initial communications described the incident as if the male had shot himself and the female, a story which both victims are said to have told law enforcement at the hospital. Police said neither was cooperative when being questioned.

Those with information on Phillips' whereabouts or on the case as a whole are urged to contact Detective Zachary Ravi by emailing ravizachary@dbpd.us or calling (386) 671-5245.
