Daytona's Daniel Dye Misses NASCAR Season Finale After Crash

Posted

PHOENIX, Ariz. - Daytona Beach local Daniel Dye had to sit out the final race of the NASCAR Xfinity Series season on Saturday after sustaining unspecified injuries in the previous night's Craftsman Truck Series race. After completing his full rookie season in the Truck Series, Dye missed out on what would've been his third Xfinity start.

The incident occurred with 20 laps remaining in the Truck Series Championship Race, when Bayley Currey's truck made contact with Stefan Parsons'. Dye, driving the #43 truck, was left with no way to avoid the crash and piled into the back of Currey.

All three trucks made heavy contact with the outside wall, bringing out the caution in the closing stages of a hectic season finale. "Collected in another persons wreck ends the night after a run inside the top-15 early at Phoenix," Dye tweeted in the aftermath of the crash. "Hard impact for the No. 43, finishes the season."

Soon thereafter, Dye's Xfinity team, Alpha Prime Racing, made the announcement that Dye had not been medically cleared to race following the crash. Leland Honeyman Jr. was tapped to fill in for Dye in both qualifying and the race. In the days following the announcement, there has still yet to be clarification on the nature of Dye's injury, or his current status. Though Dye currently has no announced Xfinity Series plans for the 2024 season, he's signed to compete a second year in the Truck Series with McAnally-Hilgemann Racing.

Born in DeLand, Dye's racing career follows that of his father, former late model racer Randy Dye. Daniel grew up in Volusia County and attended Father Lopez Catholic High School. Alongside his racing career, Dye has worked to fundraise for mental health programs at local hospital Halifax Health.
