Daytona Beach, FL - The Daytona Beach Police Department is asking the public to be on the lookout for a suspect who is considered armed and dangerous. Detectives say the man pointed a gun at a woman who had asked him for a ride home. He took at least $500 in cash from the woman before pistol-whipping.
The suspect is described as a black male in his late 20’s or early 30’s who
stands between 5’8 and 5’10 and weighs between 230 and 240 pounds. Police say he may be armed with a handgun which has a drum-style magazine. The vehicle he may be driving is a silver two-door with fading paint and a sunroof.
DBPD received an anonymous tip just after 3 a.m. on July 22 after spotting the woman near the intersection of Libby Avenue and Stocking Street, moments after she fought her way out of the vehicle. The driver fled the scene in the vehicle before officers arrived.
The victim told police she was at a gas station on International Speedway Boulevard she offered to pay the suspect for a ride home. She said that the suspect drove to Cedar Highlands Boulevard where he parked the car and pulled out the gun. He threatened to shoot and kill her if she didn’t give him all her money. The suspect took the cash out of the woman’s bra and began hitting her in the face with the gun. She tried to get out of the vehicle but the suspect managed to wrap an arm around her neck, choking her while still hitting her with the gun. The victim was able to get free of the suspect's grasp, open the car door and fall on the ground. The suspect then left the area.
The suspect is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on this suspect is urged to contact Detective Jayson Wallace at 386-671-5207 or WallaceJ@dbpd.us.
