DeLand Fire Department Stops Issuing Open Burn Permits

Posted

DeLand, FL - In addition to the county-wide burn ban in Volusia County, the DeLand Fire Department has now stopped giving out open burn permits.

Dry conditions prompted both the ban and the open burn permit measure. Open burning is where paper, vegetation and other unwanted materials are burned as a means to get rid of them.

Now, within the city limits of DeLand, this practice is no longer allowed and permits will not be issued until conditions improve. Any burning must be extinguished.

Other things residents can do to prevent and protect themselves from brush fires is to:

  • Never throw a lit cigarette from a car
  • Never park a hot/running car on dry grass
  • Remove dry debris from your yard and property
  • Have a hose that you would be able to reach throughout your property
