DELAND, Fla. - A 16 year-old from DeLand was arrested this week for allegedly shooting a man in the head on July 3rd. The man was not killed in the shooting, but nevertheless the teen was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm, robbery with a firearm, and carrying a concealed firearm.

According to the DeLand Police Department, the shooting took place at the Enclave at Pine Oak apartment complex near the basketball court. They said an argument took place between multiple individuals, and that the teen fired shots into a vehicle. The victim, after being shot in the head, was able to drive away from the scene.

After escaping the victim was then airlifted to Halifax Health in Daytona Beach to be treated for his injuries. Police questioned several individuals at DeLand's Firecracker Festival, which was taking place in nearby Earl Brown Park, and eventually arrested the teen they believe fired the shots. He was taken into custody by the Department of Juvenile Justice after there reportedly was a foot pursuit.
