Deltona City Commission to Interview City Manager Candidates Saturday

The Deltona City Commission is set to interview the top candidates for City Manager at a special meeting on Saturday. The meeting will start at 5:30 pm at the City Hall Chambers. Here, residents will have the chance to watch as the potential picks for the city's top executive position are vetted by their elected representatives.

The events leading to this current search process began when City Manager Jim Chisholm and Deputy City Manager Rick Karl resigned within days of each other back in August. The current interim City Manager is Glenn Whitcomb, who served as Public Works Director until the two resignations in August thrust him upward in his city government.

There are currently five finalists in the search, narrowed from 31 applicants. The executive search firm contracted by the city, Colin Baeziger & Associates, ranked the five finalists for the City Commission's consideration:

  1. C. Scott Andrews - City Manager of Bakersfield, California
  2. Dale Dougherty - City Manager of Garden City, Michigan
  3. Terry K. Suggs - Putnam County Administrator
  4. Carmen Y. Davis - City Manager of Lake Worth, Florida
  5. Christopher Miller - Former Administrator of King George County, Virginia

If all goes according to plan, the City Commission may pick its next City Manager in the coming days, hopefully cementing a stable leader for the city for the first time since before the pandemic. A string of city managers in that span have held the post, most proving not to last very long before departing and leaving the city with yet another search to undertake.
