Deltona Residents Can Apply for City Manager Selection Committee

DELTONA, Fla. - Residents of Deltona now have the opportunity to apply for the committee to select the next City Manager, the city announced in a press release Thursday. Those who join will have an influential voice in choosing the leadership of the city for the foreseeable future.

Those wishing to apply are instructed to email the Deltona City Commission at commissioners@deltona.gov. The deadline to apply is Tuesday, September 5th at 9:00 am. Up to 14 candidates will be selected to participate in the search.

The search for a new Deltona City Manager was kicked off earlier this month when Jim Chisholm resigned the position. Chisholm informed the City Commission of his decision on August 15th, just five days after Deputy City Manager Rick Karl also resigned on August 10th.

Mayor Santiago Avila Jr. in his announcement commented that channels of communication between Chisholm and the City Commission was not where he'd wanted it to be, and that he observed instructions not being properly carried out. In his resignation letter Chisholm commented that he never intended to stay with the city for the long haul.

In any event, the City of Deltona is now immersed in the critical process of hiring effective leadership for the coming years to replace the outgoing Chisholm. The City Commission and members of the selection committee will both move forward to one common goal: long-term stability.
