Daytona Beach, FL - Using DNA found on a steering wheel, Volusia County Sheriff's Office ties a suspect to a 2017 carjacking.
On the morning of July 8th, 2017, a woman saw a crash just west of US-92 on westbound I-4.
She pulled over to offer some assistance to the victims, which included a young woman who was seriously injured.
When the woman stopped, a young male dragged her out of her 2012 dark blue Ford Mustang convertible. Two other males loaded the unconscious, injured female into the mustang and fled, leaving the other woman at the scene.

As it turned out, the vehicle that crashed was reported stolen from Orange County.

Later on, VCSO detectives learned that the injured female was dumped in her mother's yard and the stolen Mustang was recovered nearby.
During their investigation, detectives relied on DNA left in the stolen Mustang to help solve the case. Eventually, 21-year-old Corey Pittman, brother of the injured female, was identified as the carjacker.
After more than a year and a half, detectives secured an arrest warrant and found Pittman already in custody in the Polk County Jail on unrelated charges. He now faces a carjacking charge from the 2017 incident.
