Driver Sought In Deadly Mason Avenue Hit And Run

Daytona Beach, FL - A hit and run involving a pedestrian remains under investigation as police search for the driver involved.

The Daytona Beach Police Department says an officer was near the intersection of Derbyshire Road and Mason Avenue on Thursday (March 3) when the victim, identified as Alfred Rawling Fleming, was hit trying to cross the road by a dark sedan. The officer got out of his car to help Fleming as the sedan took off westbound on Mason.

Paramedics transported Fleming to Halifax Health Medical Center as a trauma alert. He passed away from his injuries around an hour after arrival.

So far, the investigation indicates that Fleming was not within a marked crosswalk when he was struck. Detectives are currently searching for any photos or videos of the vehicle or driver so they may identify them.
