Flagler County, FL – The East Flagler County Mosquito Control District held a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Flagler Executive Airport on Friday, celebrating the opening of the industrial corridor.

“Today is a day of celebration all the way around,” says Craig Coffey, County Administrator. “It’s a project that has been a long time in the making – but that also includes really opening up this corridor along Airport Executive Drive.”

The new 10,000 square-foot facility, chemical storage building and helipad are now open off Airport Executive Drive by the National Guard site.

“This project has been in the works since 2004,” says the director for the mosquito control district, Joe Cash. “The new facility unites three separate district substations in a single location.”

There are over 613 jobs totaling a yearly payroll of $17,766,000 at the airport. Currently, $12 million worth of projects are being worked on by 50 local employees.

The projects are being led by Director Roy Sieger and, under his direction, the airport has earned the 2015 Airport Project Award from the Florida Department of Transportation for a project that improved their runway safety area.

“It’s impressive to see everything that is going on there,” says Coffey. “It’s a thriving enterprise fund operation, which means it uses zero property taxes to support it.”
