Edgewater City Councilman Rob Wilkie Resigns Due to Harassment

Posted

Edgewater City Council member Rob Wilkie will be resigning from his seat on January 6th, he announced at a recent City Council meeting. He detailed a series of harassment toward he and employees of a business he owns as having driven his decision to step away from public office.

“After much thought and reflection, I have decided that it is my time to step away from my role,” Wilkie said, as reported in the Daytona Beach News-Journal. “As with any role, there are moments when personal and professional priorities shift. These priorities shifted when I realized owning a business and being on City Council do not mix.”

Wilkie's resignation comes just two months after being elected without opposition in the 2024 election. He was sworn into office on October 21st, making it just over a month before announcing he'd be stepping away. Away from the City Council, Wilkie owns Wilkie's Pest Control.

In explaining his decision, Wilkie said that residents were taking out their frustrations against him on employees of his pest control business. He characterized Edgewater as a city whose spirit was being eroded and criticized those who did not treat one another with basic respect.
