Former Volusia County Warden Seeks District 2 Council Spot

Daytona Beach, FL - The former warden of the Volusia County Division of Corrections is throwing his hat in the ring for a spot on the Volusia County Council.

On Tuesday (April 5), Matt Reinhart announced that he is running for Volusia County Council District 2 Representative, which is currently held by the outgoing Billie Wheeler.

A 52-year resident of Volusia County and a DeLand High School grad, Reinhart began his work in the county after joining the corrections department in 1986. He served with the department for 30 years and retired as warden in 2017. Now, he works for the City of New Smyrna Beach and serves on the City of Daytona Beach Code Enforcement Board.

In a release about his campaign, Reinhart says he hopes his experience in managing multi-million dollar budgets and large groups of personnel will guide his decisions on the council.

“I am committed to serving as a good steward of the people’s money,” said Reinhart. “This race is about our future, our children and grandchildren’s future. I want them to find every opportunity right here in Volusia County for jobs, housing, recreation, safety, and education.”

He also said he plans to find a way to reduce the county’s budget and increase the county’s revenue.

News Daytona Beach plans to interview Reinhart live on Good Day Daytona, beginning at 9:00 a.m. on April 12.
