Embry-Riddle Expands Research Park Through Partnership

Daytona Beach, FL - With a goal of promoting high-paying jobs, a local university announces plans to expand its research park with a brand new partnership.

That partnership is with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Space Square, who plans on opening a brand new 200,000 square foot of research space at the corner of Williamson and International Speedway Boulevard, the site of the now-defunct Volusia Square Shopping Center.

Out of that 200,000 square feet, Embry-Riddle will be getting 20,000. Which is good timing since they're running out of space, according to Rodney Cruise, ERAU's senior vice president for administration and planning.

"Currently, our 10,000 square feet of flex-lease space is full and our incubator is full," said Cruise.

The plan sprang from the economic development efforts of ERAU, Space Square, Team Volusia, Space Florida and the Daytona Regional Chamber of Commerce.

"It's a great opportunity for Embry-Riddle, it's a great opportunity for Space Square and most importantly it's a great opportunity for the community," said Cruise.

Back in July, ERAU also announced that the global aerospace communications leader, Arralis, will relocate to the John Mica Engineering and Aerospace Complex, also known as the "MicaPlex."

"Since the debut of the MicaPlex in spring 2017, entrepreneurs there have secured more than $10 million in seed funding for their ideas,” said Cruise. “We’re going to build on that momentum and continue growing Volusia’s high-tech workforce, in cooperation with Space Square.”
