Equality Florida Establishes 'Parenting with Pride'

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Equality Florida, one of the leading civil rights groups in Florida, has established a new initiative called  'Parenting with Pride', meant to resist existing advocacy from other parental groups such as Moms for Liberty.

The aforementioned Moms for Liberty rose to prevalence in 2021 when they took action against proposed school mask mandates around the country, as the Delta variant of COVID-19 became the predominant strain. They had moderate success in some districts, before turning their attention to social issues in the years since.

More recently, Moms for Liberty has been the catalyst for the removal of a slew of books from several school districts due to content found by some to be objectionable. Often times, these objections center around topics of LGBTQ+ or racial issues.

'Parenting with Pride' seeks to provide resistance in these cultural battles, setting forth to advocate for families with LGBTQ+ members. The new group has the potential to be the largest coalition yet for socially progressive causes in Florida schools. They claim over 1,000 families have joined the coalition so far.

“We are under attack,” said Cassandra Brown, a Black mother, at the group's press conference Tuesday. “We must stand up and we must fight back [...] Our children deserve to know the truth, no matter how embarrassing or painful,” she said. “They deserve to see themselves successful, healed and thriving through the lives of their idols and ancestors found in books.”
