UPDATE - Daytona Beach Police officers were the first on the scene when the ambulance was stolen from outside the emergency room at Advent Health - Daytona Beach.
A witness told officers that he saw Keith Peacock trying the doors of the ambulance. When the witness started walking toward the ambulance, Peacock went in through the rear door, climbed into the driver's seat and sped away.
Officers said the ambulance driver and crew were in the ER when their vehicle was driven away. The driver confirmed that all doors, except the rear, were locked.
Bunnell, FL - Volusia Sheriff's deputies say 63-year-old Keith Peacock took an EVAC ambulance valued at $300,000 early this morning from AdventHealth - Daytona Beach off of Williamson Boulevard. They responded just after 2:30 a.m. to find that the ambulance was headed westbound on State Road 40 past Hunters Ridge. Using the onboard ambulance G.P.S., they were able to track the vehicle's location.
A VSO deputy followed the G.P.S. of the ambulance as it turned north on State Road 11, entering Bunnell. At this time, the Flagler County Sheriff's Office was alerted to the situation. The VSO deputy hit the emergency lights to conduct a felony traffic stop. Peacock pulled off to the side of the road near Cody's Corner and exited the vehicle. He was commanded to keep his hands up and walk backward until the deputy could secure him with handcuffs.
Because the traffic stop happened in Flagler County, Peacock was charged with Grand Theft Auto in Flagler County. The incident report shows that his driver's license expired in 2011 so more charges could be coming. Peacock was in the Volusia County Jail one week ago today on June 16. He was charged with trespass on property, other than a structure of conveyance. Peacock is listed as residing in Steinhatchee, about 165 miles away from Daytona Beach.
