Volusia County, FL - Investigators with Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) say a car caught on fire and two people died following an early morning crash in Volusia County.

According to FHP, a 2020 Ford pickup driven by a 44-year-old Debary man was headed eastbound on State Road 472 (SR 472) between US-17 and Kentucky Avenue around 1:30 Friday morning (June 4) when they rear-ended  a 2018 Toyota SUV.

Following the initial collision, the Toyota SUV—which was carrying five occupants—left the roadway and overturned. The Ford pickup truck also left the roadway and struck a tree. The truck then caught on fire and became fully engulfed in flames, according to state troopers.

The driver of the pickup truck and a 13-year-old female passenger in the Toyota SUV were pronounced dead on scene. The four other occupants were taken to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford. Their conditions are not known at this time.

We will pass along updates as they come.
