Daytona Beach, FL - State troopers say a pedestrian is dead after they were struck by passing vehicles on I-95 early Saturday morning (July 24).

A report from Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) says two vehicles were driving southbound on the interstate just a couple of miles north of Exit 265 for LPGA Boulevard before 6:00 when they spotted a pedestrian standing in the travel lanes of the highway.

According to the report, the pedestrian became prone in the travel lanes. The first vehicle did not stop and investigators say it's unclear if they struck the pedestrian. The second vehicle, however, was unable to avoid the pedestrian and hit them. Troopers believe that multiple vehicles struck the pedestrian following the initial collision. A semi-truck driver and another driver called FHP to say they had possibly run over human debris in the roadway.

Troopers noted that because of the condition of the pedestrian, investigators have not been able to properly identify the deceased. The only individual that has been identified in FHP's report is a 30-year-old Jacksonville resident who was driving the second vehicle.

As of 11:00 a.m., I-95 is still dealing with delays on both sides of the roadway. The incident remains under investigation.
