Flagler County, FL - Flagler County Commission Chair Nate McLaughlin was one of several county commissioners from across the state of Florida to speak at a Tallahassee press conference on the topic of vacation rentals.

According to Julie Murphy, Public Information Officer for Flagler County, McLaughlin, along with commissioners Gregory Hansen, David Sullivan and Donald O’Brien were in the capitol for the Florida Association of Counties conference and Legislative Day. The press conference was arranged by the Florida Association of Counties.

“Vacation rentals are great at providing our welcomed tourists a chance to see what it is like to really live in Florida,” McLaughlin said. “These short-term rental bills (House Bill 425 and Senate Bill 188) take micro-management to a new level. Let’s allow our neighbors to decide what is best for their neighborhoods and have Tallahassee stick to what is best for the state as a whole.”

Hansen, Sullivan and O’Brien attended ethics classes, as well as public records and Sunshine Laws. Ericksen attended other conference sessions

“Home Rule” was a common topic during conference sessions, which also included House Bill 17 that would preempt local government from adopting or imposing a new regulation on a business, profession or occupation.
