Flagler Commissioner Donates Week's Pay To Help Women In Recovery

Bunnell, FL - A Flagler County commissioner believes that actions speak louder than words. And to go along with that saying, he's donated a week's pay to support a woman's recovery assistance program.

That donation came from District 4 Commissioner Joe Mullins, who has not been shy about his former trials with substance abuse that was common in the sports agent profession, according to Flagler County Public Information Officer Julie Murphy.

"He really recognizes that everyone deserves a second chance," said Murphy. "Addiction can really take over your life, but that doesn't mean you can't beat it."

The program he's donated to is an SMA program known as Woman Assisting Recovering Mothers (WARM). It's a long-term program for single women and mothers with children under the age of six for 90-days to a year. “We have up to 72 women plus children in our facility at any given
time and currently serve 64 women at the Vince Carter Sanctuary in Bunnell,” said SMA’s Anna Hackett.

“Recovery is near and dear to me,” Mullins said. “I wanted to do something concrete. Sometimes we can’t do all the things we’d like as commissioners, but I can donate my pay.”

Mullins donated about $700 according to Murphy. Some of the money will be used to purchase AA/NA books for the WARM program.
