Bunnell, FL - The deal allowing more space for the Flagler County Sheriff's Office in the Flagler County Courthouse is back on. Sheriff Rick Staly and County Clerk Tom Bexley met yesterday (July 25) evening. The two walked through the courthouse floor by floor and room by room in order to find a plan that puts taxpayers first and averts litigation.
“We’ve always had a good working relationship and have been discussing this issue. After the County announced their intention to stop negotiations between the County and the Clerk today and to proceed with litigation, I called Tom and said ‘let’s solve the County's problem and let’s do it now’ and we did,” said Sheriff Rick Staly.
The details are still being worked out but County Clerk Tom Bexley said, "I was never in favor of spending tax dollars on litigation." The Flagler County Commissioners announced yesterday afternoon that they would begin legal proceedings in this case when a deal made earlier this week fell apart.
With the Sheriff and Clerk working together, there would be no reason for the county government to spend taxpayer funds on unnecessary litigation or rent office space outside the courthouse. A plan should be brought forward to Flagler County Administrator Jerry Cameron in the coming days.
