Bunnell, FL - The sheriff of Flagler County could be up for an award from the National Rifle Association.

On Monday (February 5th), Sheriff Rick Staly of the Flagler County Sheriff's Office met with NRA President Lt. Colonel Oliver North after announcing that he's one of the finalists for NRA's 2018 Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award.

Staly, who is a life member of the NRA, was selected as a finalist for his leadership in FCSO and for saving the life of an Orange County Sheriff's deputy early in his career.

The sheriff took Lt. Col. Oliver North on patrol with him through Flagler County, before treating him to dinner at Carrabba's in Palm Coast.

“It is an honor to be considered for such a prestigious award and represent the heroes in law enforcement serving America and those that have fallen in the line of duty,” Sheriff Rick Staly said.

“The entire process has been exciting and it was great to meet an American hero! I’m grateful to be considered among the other exemplary law enforcement officers.”

Sheriff Staly is also being filmed and will be featured in NRA TV's "American Heroes" program, which is set to air this spring.
