Flagler Issues Countywide Burn Ban & Declares State Of Local Emergency

Flagler County, FL - Flagler County Commissioners have issued a countywide burn ban and declared a state of local emergency.

In their regular meeting on Monday, the Flagler County Board of County Commissioners enacted a burn ban and declared a state of local emergency to do so. All counties south of Flagler had already issued burn bans, and according to the NWS, there's no significant rainfall in the forecast for Flagler County in the next week.

The burn ban prohibits the sale and use of fireworks, open burning (including fire pits and containers), charcoal grills, throwing matches or cigarettes (or other burning materials) from car windows, and parking vehicles with catalytic converters in high grassy areas.

“I think we need to get the word out to our residents that things such as charcoal barbecues are not allowed to be used,” Commissioner David Sullivan said. “The real danger there is to take those charcoals when you are done and put them in the crunchy bushes,” said Chair Nate McLaughlin.

The ban will remain in effect until further notice. For safety tips go to FlaglerCounty.org/firewise.
