Flagler County, FL - County Officials and first responders will be handing out Disaster Preparedness Guides in Flagler County this weekend.
From 10 AM to 2 PM on Saturday, July 1, and Sunday, July 2, residents can head to Publix supermarkets in Flagler Beach, the Hammock and Palm Coast (Island Walk) to receive a guide from several local elected officials and first responders. These locations were selected as they were some of the hardest hit areas during Hurricane Matthew.
“We want to ensure we are getting critical information into the hands of our residents,” says Steve Garten, Flagler County Public Safety Emergency Manager. “It will be valuable for residents to make themselves familiar with the guide before anything puts them in the position where they ‘need’ it.”
The guide is 24 pages long and it includes information that residents need to know such as understanding how a weather watch and warning are different. The guide clarifies that a watch is where dangerous weather is possible whereas a warning is where the dangerous weather has been seen or is considered imminent.
“The highest priority is the safety of our residents,” says Garten.
The guide also includes information on what paperwork you may want to keep handy and what evacuation zone you are in, according to Julie Murphy, the Flagler County Public Information Officer.
