The children in the back seat, who survived, are 13 and 17. My heart is broken for them, their parents, their entire family. I can't imagine facing a loss like this, having to endure such unspeakable pain caused by such a senseless act."

The Sheriff's Office has also released body camera footage of the events leading up to the crash. That video can be found below.

Daytona Beach, FL - State Troopers and detectives are investigating after a fleeing suspect caused a fatal head-on collision on I-95.

According to the Volusia Sheriff's Office (VSO), an armed carjacking suspect from the Orlando area fled from Flagler County deputies and eventually made their way into Volusia. Around 7 p.m. on Tuesday (December 29th), the suspect made a u-turn on I-95 and continued in the opposite direction. At that time, Volusia deputies called off their pursuit and attempted to stop the flow of southbound traffic on I-95.

The suspect continued northbound in the southbound lanes until they collided with an oncoming vehicle near the area of Exit 260A. Reports suggest that the suspect, along with the driver and front passenger of another car, died as a result of the crash. Two minors, aged 13 and 17, also suffered serious injuries during the crash.

VSO says Florida Highway Patrol is currently investigating the fatal crash. We will pass along updates as they are made available.
