Florida Gas Prices Lowest Since July

The cost of a gallon of gas on average in Florida is at its lowest level in three months, according to new figures released by AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins. The news comes as modest relief for Floridians, who have dealt with excessively high gas prices for well over a year now.

As of Sunday, a gallon of gas cost $3.33 on average in Florida, down 15 cents from the previous week. Filling up will be easier for many to stomach, but prices are still significantly higher than they were in somewhat recent memory.

"The discount at the pump has largely been driven by falling oil prices," Jenkins said. "However, the downward trend could stall soon. Ongoing geopolitical tensions allowed oil prices to regain some strength last week, though they remain below price levels we saw three weeks ago.

Interestingly, prices in Volusia County versus Flagler County are further apart than they seem to usually be. Volusia residents enjoy slightly lower prices than the state average, currently at $3.29 a gallon. Flagler, meanwhile, sits at $3.40 a gallon. Popular local destinations for low cost gas continue to be Buc-ee's and Sam's Club at LPGA Blvd and I-95 in Daytona, both of which offer $2.99 gas as of Monday.

The West Palm Beach-Boca Raton metro area has the highest gas prices in Florida as of Sunday at $3.53 a gallon, with Pensacola offering the cheapest gas at $3.16.
