Orange City, FL - Four juveniles from the Orlando area face a multitude of charges after they were caught breaking into a pawn shop.
Three of them were spotted breaking into Central Florida Pawn and Gun by an Orange City police officer who was working a routine patrol near North Volusia Avenue around 3:00 this morning (May 20th).
After realizing they were spotted, the group of teens fled to a black Nissan Altima and took off from the area. The officer soon followed behind them and activated his lights to try and stop them. Instead, the driver ignored the officer and continued driving southbound towards DeBary.
Officers around Orange City maintained visual contact with the vehicle while relaying pertinent information to other law enforcement in the area. Soon, a Volusia County deputy joined in with the efforts to apprehend the teens by laying a stop stick near Enterprise Road and South Volusia Avenue.
That device was successful in puncturing one of their tires, but the car continued south into DeBary, eventually coming to a stop at St. Ann’s Catholic Church. The four teens, including the driver, took off from there and fled.
The Volusia Sheriff's Office soon set up a perimeter in the area and deployed a K9 that tracked the subjects to the dead-end of Eagle Estates Drive, where they were subsequently arrested.
It was determined after their arrest that some of the group – which comes from Orange County – carried prior criminal records. Investigators also found that the Altima used by the teens was reported stolen out of Orange County on Monday (May 18th).
Charges for the teens include attempted burglary, grand theft auto, fleeing/eluding law enforcement, trespassing, resisting arrest without violence and operating a vehicle without a license.
The case remains open pending an additional investigation by the Orange City Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division.
The names of the juveniles are not available at this time.
