TALLAHASSE, Fla. - Christina Pushaw, the long-serving and at-times controversial Press Secretary for Governor Ron DeSantis, is stepping down from her post to join the re-election campaign. She'll be serving there in a position listed as the Director of Rapid Response.
Pushaw submitted her resignation to DeSantis's Chief of Staff James Uthmeier and Director of Administration Dawn Hanson on Friday. In her letter Pushaw spoke to five points of interest to the DeSantis governorship: government mandates, education, taxes and inflation, law enforcement, and abortion. In the closing of her letter, Pushaw endorsed her successor, incoming Press Secretary Bryan Griffin.
Throughout her time as the Governor's Press Secretary Pushaw became known for public debates with journalists whose coverage she disputed, at times venturing into contentious Twitter spats.
In recapping her time as Press Secretary Pushaw acknowledged that she didn't try to carry out her job in a conventional way. This manifested itself at times in sharp criticisms of her; a tweet questioning the authenticity of a Nazi rally outside Walt Disney World found her the target of accusations of antisemitism. She at all times denied malicious intent.
Just this summer Pushaw received attention for registering as a foreign with the Department of Justice. She'd done work with Mikheil Saakashvili, the former President of the Republic of Georgia.
