Daytona Beach, FL - Daytona Beach and the rest of Central Florida are under a Heat Advisory today. National Weather Service Meteorologist Andrew Kennedy said today's temperatures will range from the mid to upper 90s, with a couple of places possible reaching 100 degrees.
The heat index is forecast to be 108 upwards of 112 in a couple of locations. Kennedy said a Heat Advisory is issued when a combination of high heat and high humidity creates a feels-like temperature of 108 or higher.
Kennedy said people should exercise "common sense" when temperatures are so dangerously high. Stay inside if you can. If you have to be outside, try to avoid strenuous activity and take frequent breaks in the shade or in the air-conditioning. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. It's also very important to stay hydrated.
Kennedy said temperatures are expected to be a couple of degrees lower for the Fourth of July but it will still feel like 105. Take precautions and watch for signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke if you plan to be outside for long. Also, pay extra attention to the elderly, small children, the disabled and pets.
