Port Orange, FL - A woman hired to clean a home in Port Orange is facing charges after trying to clean a homeowner out of $5,000 worth of jewelry.

Jennifer Eiss was arrested on Friday (Feb. 4) and booked into the Volusia County Jail on multiple charges of grand theft and dealing in stolen property. Investigators say she was hired by a Port Orange homeowner in mid-December through an online ad. It wasn’t until mid-January that the homeowner discovered multiple pieces of jewelry were missing.

According to a police report, when the homeowner confronted Eiss about the missing jewelry, she broke down and started to cry, pleading with the homeowner to not call the police. She told Eiss she wouldn’t call the police if she brought back the stolen jewelry. Eiss agreed and later came back with two bags containing tangled jewelry. The homeowner later called Eiss and said she was still missing some pieces of jewelry, but Eiss insisted she returned everything.

During the investigation, detectives discovered Eiss had pawned the victim’s jewelry in the Daytona Beach area. In total, about 100 items—ranging from gold and silver rings, chains, pendants, charms, earrings, and bracelets—were stolen from the home, coming out to about $5,000.

One pawnbroker police talked to said Eiss was pregnant, out of work, and needed the money. Eiss also told the man she inherited all of the jewelry that she sold. The pawnbroker added that Eiss conducted multiple transactions with jewelry over the course of several months.

After a warrant was signed, Eiss was arrested and charged with six counts of dealing in stolen property, six counts of false owner info provided for pawned items $300 or more, and grand theft. She remains in the Volusia County Jail as of Wednesday (Feb. 9) on $24,000 bail.

Court records show Eiss is set to go before a judge on Friday (Feb. 10) before a criminal hearing that is scheduled for March 8.
