Kicks 4 Guns Returns To Volusia

Deltona, FL - If you have an unwanted firearm, local law enforcement has a way to turn it into something useful for you.

Both the Daytona Beach Police Department and the Volusia County Sheriff's Office will be running the events tomorrow (October 24th), with Daytona hosting East Volusia's and VCSO hosting West Volusia's.

The event is the perfect time to surrender any unwanted weapons, broken weapons or even stolen weapons, no questions asked and no identification required.

"We won't ask any questions, we are just happy to take them from anyone who would like to give them to us," said Laura Williams, public information officer with VCSO.

According to Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood, it's also the perfect time to make your home a little safer.

“Parents and grandparents: Check your child’s room and see if they have a gun they shouldn’t have in their possession. If you turn in a gun, you could be saving their life or someone else’s," said Chitwood.

Both agencies ask that all guns remain unloaded and safely secured. Officers and deputies will be on-hand to retrieve weapons from vehicles for people who are unable to or uncomfortable with unloading their weapons.

The Sheriff's Office asks that weapons are placed in a sealed bag or box labeled "Kicks 4 Guns."

Anyone who surrenders a weapon gets a gift card valued up to $50 from DBPD, or a $50 Walmart gift card from VCSO.

If you're a Volusia resident, you can also request law enforcement to come to your home and pick up your weapon. You can call (386) 943-8276 to make arrangements.

Both events begin at 8 a.m. Daytona's event, which is at the Midtown Substation off of Orange Avenue, ends at 3 p.m. VCSO's event, which takes place at The Center at Deltona off of MLK BlvdAll guns surrendered at these events will be destroyed.
