Man Shot & Child Injured After 2 Masked Men Attack Them In Their Driveway

Deltona, FL - A man was shot and a child was injured in Deltona late Saturday night when 2 masked men pulled up behind them in their driveway and started shooting. According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office (VCSO), the VCSO is investigating the shooting that happened Saturday, May 6, around 11 PM, on Sable Ave. in Deltona. The VCSO reports the following: When the shooting occurred, the victim, a 39-year-old man, was inside his pickup truck with 3 children, ages 12, 12 and 14. The victim sustained gunshot wounds to the right forearm, right armpit area and left wrist. One of the children also sustained a small cut on his finger from broken glass. The adult victim was airlifted by helicopter to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford for medical treatment. The child was taken to the hospital by ambulance for his injury. The VCSO received an initial call at 11:03 PM from a resident on Adams Ave. who reported hearing sounds of gunshots in the distance. A minute later, a 2nd call was received from a convenience store on Elkcam Blvd. reporting there had been a shooting and the victim and 3 children were at the store seeking help. When deputies arrived, they learned the shooting had occurred about half a mile away, on Sable Ave. The victim and the children were pulling into their driveway on Sable Ave. when a vehicle pulled in behind them and 2 men wearing masks got out and started shooting. The injured victim drove off to get away and went to a nearby store to get help.
The adult victim remains hospitalized in stable condition. Detectives believe robbery was the motive for the shooting, which remains under investigation. Copyright Southern Stone Communications 2017.
