ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - A mother and three young children were saved after a scary crash on Monday, in which their vehicle wound up in multiple feet of water after flipping over. The heroics of good samaritans and emergency personnel are to thank for their intense crash's eventual happy ending.

According to a report on the incident by the Volusia Sheriff's Office, the mother was traveling southbound on I-95 with her three kids, the oldest of which was around 5 years old. For reasons not specified the vehicle went off the highway, hit a pole, and began to flip over. It came to rest in a ditch with three-foot-deep water.

Witnesses to the crash pulled the occupants out of their car while they waited on emergency services. Once paramedics arrived, the four were treated for minor injuries. They then worked to recover the several Christmas gifts for the children that were in the car at the time of the crash, forming a human chain between Ormond Beach firefighters and police to pass them to dry land.

What could be salvaged ultimately was, and the Volusia Sheriff's Office contributed some donated gifts to round out the haul. The VSO then said they brought the gifts to the hospital, helping the kids find some enjoyment in a Christmas that had already gone very wrong.

Emergency responders went to extreme lengths to recover the gifts.
